What is an EGR delete?
Simply stated, an EGR delete is a part that prevents exhaust from being able to re-enter the engine. In effect, it "deletes" the EGR portion of the emission (pollution) controls on the vehicle.
Will deleting my EGR cooler set my Check Engine Light?
In some cases, yes. Installing an EGR delete on 2006 and up 6.0L trucks WILL result in the check engine light. In fact, it will set the check engine light on all Ford 6.0L's with software that has been updated since about 2005. This means that an EGR delete will set the CEL on most 6.0L's on the road today.
I've heard that doing an EGR delete fixes my 6.0 for good; is that right?
This is the most common MISUNDERSTANDING in the Power Stroke universe. The fact of the matter is that while the EGR cooler is often kicked, cussed, blamed and replaced, it's not to blame for the problem. If your alternator on your truck seized up and shredded your serpentine belt, would you blame the belt? The same holds true for the EGR cooler and the engine oil cooler. The EGR cooler fails because of the blockage that forms within the engine oil cooler itself. Installing an EGR delete to "fix" your 6.0L is only masking a much larger problem.
"I don't have to worry about Federal Law, we don't have smog testing here..."
Well you may not have smog testing where you are today, but none of us know what the future holds. Play it smart and replace your failed EGR cooler with a BulletProof EGR cooler and you won't have to worry about any "drama" associated with an EGR delete.
How are EGR deletes different from EGR coolers?
Here is a comparison chart of EGR deletes and EGR coolers:
What is the last word on EGR deletes?
We like to keep it simple - so think about it like this. If you install an EGR delete, you run the risk of setting a check engine light, you violate federal emissions laws, and your truck pollutes more. While that may not seem like a big deal at first, we have yet to meet a single person that is in favor of more pollution - not less. Bottom line - install Bullet Proof Diesel's EGR coolers, and you don't have to worry about it anymore. Peace of mind is a worthy purchase, right?
